I’ve been absent from my blog for about a week or two, due to traveling (something I love to do).
First, I was blessed with opportunity to visit Las Vegas with some of my close friends. Now, as you might imagine, we were trying to ball on a budget, so we didn’t do fancy dinners or spend a bunch of money on food. We were eating fast food like no other and most of the time, we ate between going out and trying to nap in order to be ready for Vegas night life. After Las Vegas, I made my way down to Miami where I boarded a ship with my family. We went on a four-day cruise to Freeport, Nassau (Atlantis), and Stirrup Bay in the Bahamas. Now, If you’ve been on cruises, you know that you can literally eat all you want and this cruise came with unlimited drinks. YES, THAT’S WHAT I SAID! As many drinks as I wanted. There were times when I decided to drink wine or a frozen drink instead of eat. Don’t judge me, I’m twenty-three. It seemed like a logical decision at the time.
During my vacation, I didn’t get a chance to formally workout. Which makes things more difficult. But even though I was out-of-town, I still wanted to make good decisions. And I think I did a relatively good job.
In Vegas, we ate fast food… A lot. And I did splurge and have a burger (It was Johnny Rockets and it was GOOD). However, you have to be sure to be active during the day. When we were going to see different attractions, we walked around 3-4 miles and I got around 15,000 steps on a day. (which is over my goal.) Below, I’ve included 5 steps that you can use for when you’re on vacation.
5 Steps to Eating Healthy on Vacation
STEP 1: If you don’t formally workout, make sure to stay active during the day. If its walking, looking at attractions or swimming, do something active!
STEP 2: Attempt to make healthier decisions. Instead of going to Chick-fil-A, go to Subway. Instead of getting fries, get a side Caesar salad. The more small changes you make, the better off you will be.
STEP 3: Don’t drink sodas while on vacation.(especially if you’re on a bottomless alcohol cruise). Try to drink water as much as you can.
STEP 4: Don’t just eat because you feel like it, I know you’re on vacation but don’t eat to the point where you’re tired. That’s not good. Eat when you’re hungry and enjoy your vacation!
STEP 5: Have a great detox and workout plan ready for you when you get home. I got back home on a Friday and I started back working out and drinking my detox tea the very next day.
At the end of the day, you’re on vacation and you want to have a good time but that doesn’t mean you should forget your overall goal. If you want to be a healthier you, don’t throw it away for one week it will be worth it in the end!
